November 14, 2001

Vodafone Hungary has selected Nokia as the sole supplier for its GPRS network in Hungary. Nokia will supply the Vodafone Hungary's complete GPRS core network, as well as the upgrade of both the existing radio access network and the network management system. The system will help drive the growth of mobile data business in the Hungarian market by giving subscribers "always-on" mobile access to the Internet.

Deliveries will begin soon, and the GPRS system is expected to be operational already in December, 2001.

Nokia will also provide Implementation and GPRS Network Planning Services, consisting of radio, transmission and IP planning including external network connectivity consultancy to enable fast start-up of packed-based subscriber services. The Nokia KeyCare(TM) Package will be provided to maintain the competitiveness of the network after rollout.

"Our objective is to be profitable and to gradually secure the return of the several millions of dollars invested in Hungary," says Vodafone Hungary CEO Attila Vitai. "To this end we always introduce our high quality services at the most appropriate time, which is when we can also provide the suitable terminals to ensure that our customers fully utilize both."

"Our cooperation with Nokia has been very successful," Mr. Vitai adds. "Our network is being built at a rapid pace, and we are very happy that the one thousandth base station is already operational in the second year following the launch of our services. Thus by the end of this year, when we will be launching our GPRS services, our customers will be able to use the high quality Vodafone Network all over the country".

Nokia has been Vodafone Hungary's sole supplier of GSM infrastructure since 1999.

"We are pleased to expand our existing good co-operation with Vodafone Hungary," says Magnus Ehrnrooth, senior account manager, Nokia Hungary. "With the Nokia GPRS solution, which is the industry's most mature and scaleable carrier-class core GPRS system, Vodafone will be equipped with a complete commercially capable GPRS network in Hungary."

Nokia has delivered and implemented almost 60 GPRS core networks to leading operators in Europe, the USA, Asia and China, and clearly has the largest installed base of any GPRS supplier.
