Wavelink Streamlines Enterprise-Class Wireless Applications

New Wavelink Studio 4.0 Provides Powerful New Features to Enable Work Force Applications for Large Enterprise Customers

November 8, 2001

Wavelink Corporation, a leading provider of wireless application development software, network management and mobile device management solutions for the enterprise, announces the latest evolution of its comprehensive wireless application solution with the release of Wavelink Studio 4.0, which will be available to the general public on November 30, 2001.

This enterprise version of Wavelink's industry tested wireless application solution builds on Studio's core strengths in enabling enterprise wireless applications that streamline mission-critical business processes and improve mobile worker productivity; utilizing both wireless LANs and WANs, including 802.11, 802.11b, CDPD, GPRS, and GSM networks.

Wavelink's Studio 4.0 provides many new benefits for large enterprise customers. New multi-site capabilities enable enterprises to develop, deploy, and manage wireless applications from a single server to any other server on the network -- anywhere over the globe, supporting thousands of users. Enterprises employing redundant servers can take advantage of Studio's new load balancing feature, which distributes connections to mobile devices across multiple servers. Improving ease of use, Wavelink's auto-discovery feature is standard with Studio 4.0, allowing end-users to access applications on a host server without having to pre-configure the mobile device.

"The Wavelink Studio 4.0 platform provides developers and enterprises with independence, flexibility and investment protection," says Robert Whelan, president and chief executive officer of Wavelink. "Wavelink continues its commitment to bringing cost-effective, user-friendly wireless solutions to the enterprise."

The Studio 4.0 server and administrator are built on Java technology -- providing enterprises the flexibility to develop, deploy, and manage applications from any host platform including Windows, Unix, and AS/400. Further, Wavelink expanded support of its JAVA and C++ development libraries, complementing the most comprehensive existing support for any COM-based programming language such as Visual Basic, Visual Fox Pro, and Power Builder. Wavelink Studio's extensive development libraries enable enterprise application developers to leverage legacy applications and write in their own programming language by utilizing Wavelink's API's and pre-built components to control the presentation of their application on the mobile device. This process abstracts the developer from the complexities of wireless networks and device types, and allows for rapid and highly customizable development for business process and workflow-oriented applications.

Wavelink Studio enables enterprises to rapidly develop and deploy server-side wireless applications that take on the "native" look and feel of the wireless device. These applications extend reliable and intensive data exchange to the point of mobile worker activity. Studio supports hundreds of devices ranging from industrial-grade, ruggedized DOS-based devices and scanners to Palm OS and Windows CE/ Pocket PC-based devices.

Developers are able to receive a free 6 month trial license of Wavelink Studio, plus access to resources, tools, tips and sample code for writing wireless applications through Wavelink's Developer Connection at www.wavelink.com/devconnect.
