First Telematics/Location Device Certified for GSM/GPRS Networks

November 7, 2001

WebTech Wireless Inc., a global wireless vehicle services provider, today announced the commercial availability of North America's first General Packet Radio Service (GPRS)-based suite of data services for fleets and mobile workers.

The addition of the high-speed data network capability of GSM / GPRS provides new "always-on" services such as Internet connectivity (laptop/PDA), real-time GPS Fleet Tracking, Navigation and M-Commerce services (invoicing, credit card validation) to WebTech's existing suite of fleet services.

"Our research on the adoption of AVL services for fleets has revealed that the emergence of new applications that compliment fleet tracking and messaging, such as the services facilitated by GPRS networks, will further increase its penetration," commented Jeffrey Chang, Analyst, The Strategis Group. "Revenue from AVL hardware and service alone is estimated to generate $696 million this year in North America, and our surveys of fleet managers indicate that demand is on the rise."

"We are delighted to be the first and only Wireless Vehicle Services Provider in North America to commercially deploy a GPRS-based wireless services gateway for the vehicle environment," said Cameron Fraser, Chief Technical Officer, WebTech Wireless. "Our WebTech Locator device addresses the real-time data service needs of fleets and mobile workers. GSM/ GPRS networks being implemented throughout North America will revolutionize the services of the traditional AVL space and we're at the forefront of this new data services revolution."

WebTech is using the 'always on' wireless data capability of GSM/GPRS networks throughout North America to deploy its Quadrant(TM) Wireless Vehicle Services System. The Quadrant System provides a mobile data services platform that unites the five work mobility technology areas; the Internet, wireless devices (laptops, PDAs, cellular phones), peripherals (barcode scanners, printers etc.), GPS and wireless networks into a robust end-to-end system. The Quadrant System addresses the market demand for mobile data services that provide the benefits of location, the Internet and wireless communications in a suite of subscription services.
