Wireless Matrix Receives Rail Unit Order

November 14, 2001

Wireless Matrix Corporation ("Wireless Matrix") (TSE:WRX.) announces today that Nexterna, Inc. has ordered more than 1,000 Wireless Matrix SDM 1200 modems for deployment on Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) locomotives.

Delivery and deployment of the units will occur throughout the third and fourth quarters of fiscal year 2002.

Nexterna utilizes the Wireless Matrix modems as part of their fleet management solution for increased locomotive utilization. The Nexterna solution will use the units to communicate GPS tracking data throughout the Railroad's operations area, as well as to extend the Work Order Reporting System beyond the range of the Union Pacific's private terrestrial communications system. The integrated wireless solution from Nexterna and Wireless Matrix also provides the platform for expanding locomotive data communications to include locomotive health monitoring and improved logistics planning.

"We are pleased with the performance of the Wireless Matrix equipment and communications services for our customers," said Mark Heck, Rail Business Director for Nexterna. "By using Wireless Matrix' modems with our ruggedized communications computer and routing software, we are able to provide the continuous coverage our customers require."

"When added to existing deployments by Nexterna's Rail division, this order will result in more than 2,500 locomotives being equipped with Wireless Matrix' real-time satellite communications," said John Herring, President and CEO, Wireless Matrix. "Nexterna has been a valued partner of Wireless Matrix for nearly two years and our business opportunities within their Rail, Field Service and Transportation divisions continue to grow."
