- Developer of ClearMode to Provide Airborne's PocketBoxOffice With Subscription Management and Billing Platform -

November 28, 2001

Wmode, the creator of ClearModeä, the first wireless clearinghouse serving the worldwide mobile commerce market, announced today its partnership with Airborne Entertainment, the developer and distributor of high quality entertainment programming for wireless devices, to manage complex subscriptions, create flexible pricing plans and administer pay-per-use charges. The technology integration will help wireless carriers in Airborne's Micro-Entertainment network to implement new payment methods including micro-billing (pay-per-play), subscription-based and license-based.

Airborne has developed and operates RUNWAY(tm), a sophisticated content management and distribution platform, that has attracted a vast network including top entertainment content providers and North American wireless carriers. Billed as the "the world's first Micro-Entertainment network," Airborne's PocketBoxOffice has partnered with more than a dozen wireless carriers in North America and offers 12 different channels comprising 83 programs specifically designed for handheld devices and the mobile user.

ClearMode allows Airborne to charge users for wireless services and have those charges appear on the users' phone accounts, known as a Bill-to-Phone(tm) payment model. ClearMode enhances Airborne's RUNWAY technology platform, which is a web-based open-architecture system built to handle the flow and scheduling of mobile Micro-Entertainment content, by serving as the content payment processing component of the RUNWAY platform. This additional component to the platform also allows Airborne to customize payment models, providing more options for subscribers. "Wmode is pleased to partner with a company that has already demonstrated success with charging consumers for wireless content," said Dennis Woronuk, president and CEO of Wmode. "Both Wmode and Airborne share the vision of providing unlimited content choice and ensuring the content providers get paid. ClearMode is an ideal solution to manage all the relationships involved with the size and complexity of Airborne's network."

Airborne's PocketBoxOffice features popular brands like Buzztime Trivia, Backstreet Betting, Doonesburyâ, Dear Abbyâ and its proprietary games channel, WeGotGames. Airborne's programming currently is available to 80 percent of the U.S. market and 100 percent of the Canadian market. "This partnership is a natural step forward for us because the ClearMode clearinghouse is complementary technology for our RUNWAY platform," said Garner Bornstein, CEO of Airborne Entertainment. "The new payment solution will allow us to be more efficient, open up new revenue streams for both carriers and our content partners and scale to manage the significant volume of transactions that Airborne's network experiences."
