Alcatel and IVT Corporation Sign Bluetooth Technology Partnership

December 10, 2001

Alcatel (Paris:CGEP.PA)(NYSE:ALA) and IVT Corporation today announced they have signed a partnership to jointly promote their Bluetooth solutions.

The combination of Alcatel's Bluetooth reference design with embedded Software up to HCI and IVT Corporation's Bluetooth Host Protocol Stack, Profiles and BlueTester results in a total Bluetooth solution that is easy to integrate, offering equipment manufacturers a short development cycle.

Dr. Qiang GAO, CEO of IVT Corporation: "We are pleased to enter such partnership with an innovative Bluetooth chip manufacturer like Alcatel. Alcatel and IVT are looking forward to providing their customers with complete turnkey solutions."

Vincent Mouret, Vice President Wireless Business Unit for Alcatel's microelectronics activities, commented: "Alcatel is bringing to the market the most compact and complete solution, satisfying the needs of the most demanding customer applications in terms of data rate, software flexibility and hardware implementation. Our partnership with IVT allows us to offer to our customers a total Bluetooth solution, a proven combination of our hardware and firmware and IVT's software. This partnership is part of our extensive programme of collaboration with the major players in the Bluetooth industry."

The Alcatel Bluetooth design, the MTC-60180, is the first Bluetooth chip on the market offering complete V1.1 functionality with proven interoperability: full data rate, point-to-multi-point Master/slave switch, multi-slot packet communication (for higher data rates), Park, hold, & sniff modes, Scatternet functionality, Safer+ Encryption, 3 simultaneous audio channels.

With the flash memory embedded in the chip, the Alcatel design is a compact and complete solution. Customers can benefit from software upgrades faster and can differentiate their products by adding application layers, without the need for external memory. The chip allows for maximum flexibility through the choice of radio. Alcatel has a future-proof platform, with a roadmap of various dedicated versions, a fast move to ROM (FlashROM(TM) from TSMC), and extended functionality. Moreover, Alcatel offers local technical customer support worldwide.

IVT was the first to release the Bluetooth Protocol Stack SDL/C source code (Bluelet) in November 1999, followed by the first Bluetooth Conformance Tester (BlueTester for Conformance) in September 2000, and the first Bluetooth Interoperability Tester (BlueTester for Interoperability) in September 2001. IVT Bluelet Software Suite is one of the most favourable solutions for PC OEM makers, which runs on Windows 98/ME, Windows 2000, and Windows XP. It supports many profiles including DUN, PAN, FAX, HCRP, and Bluetooth hardware such as USB dongle, PCMCIA Card and CF Card. Bluelet for CE (3.0) is another leading product from IVT. It is one of the most suitable solutions for handheld device makers. It runs on many handheld devices. IVT also offers different reference designs such as headset, access point, voice & data gateway, PAN bridge, and cordless phone.

Alcatel designs and manufactures leading-edge system-on-chip (SoC) solutions for telecom equipment manufacturers, various application specific standard products (ASSPs) and application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs) for automotive and peripheral customers. Alcatel is the number one supplier of ADSL chipsets worldwide and is the fourth-largest semiconductor supplier in Europe, with 28 offices worldwide.
