CIBERNET Releases 'MXP' - A New Billing Exchange Protocol For Wireless Data and M-Commerce

December 6

CIBERNET, a subsidiary of the Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association (CTIA), announced today the release of its new Mobile Xchange Protocol (MXP) designed to permit the wireless industry to bill for non-traditional (i.e. non-voice) services.

MXP accomplishes more than any existing inter-company billing protocol and was developed to meet the needs of mobile application developers, wireless carriers, content providers, and billing and mediation vendors.

MXP is designed to support revenue sharing business models and provides the flexibility needed to exchange wholesale billing details for any service: m-commerce, messaging, voice, and data. MXP can function across CDMA, TDMA, GSM, IDEN, and 3G air interface technologies.

MXP uses the eXtensible Markup Language "XML", an open standard to define data structure and record formats, which allows exchanges of data between applications on different networks. MXP was also designed as a full, end-to-end process that describes the rules and procedures to prepare, exchange, validate, and return business-to-business transactions.

"All players in the emerging mobile Internet space are looking for ways to generate revenues that flow to the bottom line," said George Shaginaw, CIBERNET President and CEO. "Regardless of the nature of each transaction, someone will need to collect revenues for service provided and in many instances share the revenue stream. To do so, service details must be compiled, rated, and exchanged among systems and trading partners. The MXP protocol meets these requirements."
