December 14, 2001

PictureIQ(TM) Corporation (http://www.pictureiq.com), a provider of intelligent Internet image optimization and delivery solutions for businesses, and Nippon Ericsson K.K, the Japanese subsidiary of Ericsson (Nasdaq: ERICY), a world-leading company in fixed and mobile networks, mobile phones and infocom systems, announced today that Nippon Ericsson K.K. has licensed PictureIQ's TransForce(TM) server appliance to be available on its new mobile Internet portal infrastructure, WISE(TM) Portal.

This will provide mobile network operators and independent service providers (ISPs) in Japan with new capabilities to support the display and access of rich image content requested from any network access point or mobile device type. This mobile portal solution will be available for trials during Q1 2002, and will be more broadly available by the end of 2002.

PictureIQ TransForce enables real-time conversion and optimization of images based on a single image master, and dynamically delivers image content to suit specifications of any type of browser or requesting device. Its rule set profiles can be easily modified to automate the preparation of image content for various device-specific requirements and network access conditions. With Ericsson's WISE Portal solution, PictureIQ TransForce will give mobile network operators a new level of flexibility to incorporate and automatically tailor image content for their custom portal applications. Specifically, Ericsson's WISE Portal solution enables a network operator or service provider to tailor mobile Internet offerings to match unique market requirements. The solution plays a crucial role in helping their mobile customers to access the services and information they want quickly and easily. WISE Portal end-users can also personalize the portal to suit their own preferences and needs. WISE Portal seamlessly integrates the Internet and Wireless Application Protocol (WAP)-based services so that they can be accessed from any personal computer, WAP phone or other mobile devices. Support for additional types of mobile terminals, such as i-Mode, J-Sky and EZWeb will be developed based on the market situation.

"Image-centric content has a tremendous impact, but presents the greatest challenge from preparation through delivery. PictureIQ is a pioneer in offering a device-independent and channel-quality independent system to support rich and engaging mobile image content and value-added services," said Michael Bjorn, General Manager, Internet Applications and Broadband Access, Nippon Ericsson K.K. Nippon Ericsson K.K.'s Internet Applications and Broadband Access division offers its mobile portal solution as an end-to-end offering, including business model, operation flow and system architecture consulting, plus system integration.

"Our dynamic imaging approach addresses new demands for content based on the increasing emergence of mobile networks and multiple device types beyond the PC," said Tom Hull, President and CEO of PictureIQ Corp. "We are very pleased to be aligning with Nippon Ericsson K.K. to enable rich image content as an important component of next-generation mobile portal applications."

PictureIQ's unique XML-based, multi-resolution imaging architecture powers all of its products, providing powerful image management, manipulation and rendering features. It also works with standard image formats, such as GIF, rather than requiring use of proprietary formats.
