Agreement Opens up New U.S. Wireless Locations to GRIC Customers

December 11, 2001

GRIC Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq:GRIC) and NetNearU today announced an agreement that will add NetNearU's broadband wireless access points to GRIC's growing global broadband wireless network. NetNearU plans to license several thousand access points through distributors and channel partners over the next 18 months to be located at hotels, retail establishments, airports, truck stops, military bases, and marinas in the United States.

"NetNearU has established itself as a leader in the broadband wireless and wired public Internet access market. The addition of the current and future NetNearU wireless locations will add significant value to the GRIC Wi-Fi network by providing customers with a variety of new broadband wireless access points," said John Rasmus, GRIC vice president of Business Development and Corporate Strategy. "GRIC anticipates announcing other network providers and participants in the coming months."

In April of this year GRIC expanded the scope of the GRIC Alliance(TM), made up of more than 300 service providers in more than 150 countries, to include broadband wireless access based on the Wi-Fi (802.11b) standard. Since then it has announced relationships with Skynet Global and China Netcom and completed a beta test of the network. In addition to its broadband wireless access points, NetNearU also provides software to top tier telecommunications companies and enterprises for use in public access facilities.

Larry M. James, NetNearU chairman and CEO, said, "This agreement will facilitate both companies' growth and will provide better service to customers."
