IBM, Socket Communications, and Crossbow Technologies Select Roving Networks' BlueLine

BlueLine(TM) Delivers Secured Bluetooth(TM) Wireless Connectivity for Retail Commerce, Enterprise Networks, and Industrial Automation Applications

Roving Networks Inc., a provider of intelligent network appliances for Bluetooth devices today demonstrated BlueLine, a Bluetooth LAN Access Point at booth number 108 in the Bluetooth Developers Conference. Conference attendees with Bluetooth capable PDAs, laptops, and cell phones were able to connect to the Internet, synchronize data, retrieve email, access printers, and control household appliances via X10.

"We have been very happy with the performance of BlueLine, and the support we receive from Roving Networks has been in accordance with our best expectation." IBM Global Services has developed a number of innovative retail applications using BlueLine for their international clients; including locating and tracking consumers, maintaining communications, and enabling consumers make payments using their mobile devices.

The BlueLine Access Point is a complete intelligent server appliance and the first Bluetooth Access Point to incorporate Socket's Bluetooth module. "We are impressed with BlueLine's ability to install in seconds and work right out of the box. We had great success using BlueLine with our Pocket PC Bluetooth CompactFlash card demo at Comdex in November," said John Doub, director Bluetooth Program at Socket Communications (Nasdaq:SCKT), the Handheld Connection Company, and a leader in Bluetooth plug-in cards for Pocket PCs and embedded modules. In the demo, users were able to access Internet web sites from their Pocket PC's as well as view live digital camera images from a web cam attached via Ethernet.

BlueLine has applications in industrial control as well. Roving Networks has been working with Crossbow Technology, Inc., the leading supplier of intelligent sensors, to leverage Bluetooth for data acquisition in environmental monitoring, industrial automation, process control, and condition-based maintenance. "BlueLine complements our Bluetooth-enabled smart sensors, providing an important link to LANs and the Internet," said Mike Horton, CEO of Crossbow Technologies.
