Web-based ICQ Lite and ICQ 3.0X for Mac OSX Increase ICQ's Availability On Different Platforms to Support 'ICQ Anywhere'

ICQ ("I Seek You"), the world's most popular online communications community and international service from America Online, Inc., today announced new versions of its ICQ instant messaging product that make this powerful online communications tool available to more people, in more places and on more platforms and devices than ever before. Supporting the Company's 'ICQ Anywhere' strategy, the new Web-based ICQ Lite lets users access their ICQ account from the browser on any Internet-enabled computer and ICQ 3.0X for Mac brings the full power of ICQ to Mac OSX users.

Since its pioneering role in offering the first Internet instant messaging software in 1996, ICQ has evolved into a complete communications portal with over 115 million registered users worldwide.

"The new versions of ICQ make it even easier and more convenient for users to stay in touch in real time from wherever they are and in a variety of different ways. By extending ICQ's availability to anywhere there is an Internet connection and to additional platforms, more users can access ICQ's powerful, feature-rich communications tools anytime they need," said Jim Bankoff, President of AOL Web Properties.

ICQ Lite revolutionizes how and when users can access their ICQ account by allowing them to log on from the Web with any Internet-enabled computer in the world. By leveraging the new server-based contact lists introduced with 2001b, ICQ Lite frees users from relying solely on the host PC where the ICQ client has been installed. By visiting the ICQ Lite homepage at http://lite.icq.com, users can immediately send instant messages, access their contact lists, send SMS text messages to cell phones and much more. This freedom to access ICQ from practically any computer makes ICQ Lite ideal for frequent travelers or for a second PC at home or work.

The new ICQ 3.0X extends ICQ's powerful communications tools to users of the new Macintosh OS X. ICQ 3.0X is ICQ's first unified version for Mac OS "Classic" versions 8.6 and higher as well as for Mac OS X. It contains features that were previously separately available to users of the two platforms, as well as key new features found in ICQ 2001b, such as the server-based contact lists. ICQ 3.0X seamlessly integrates with the Macintosh desktop using the latest Mac OS technologies. It offers enhanced multilingual support as well as AppleScript support, which allows users to automate ICQ actions and activate them from other applications.

"The introduction of ICQ Lite and ICQ 3.0X for Mac means that our loyal users have more ways than ever to use our wide-range of popular communication tools. Having developed one of the most downloaded pieces of software on the Internet, we work hard to ensure that ICQ is easily accessible to more people in more places and on more platforms all over the world," said ICQ co-founder Yair Goldfinger.
