Interactive Intelligence Launches Wireless Application Development Platform at Planet PDA

Mobiliti designed to help enterprises more quickly and easily develop, deploy and maintain productivity applications for PDAs

December 17, 2001

Interactive Intelligence Inc. (Nasdaq: ININ), a global developer of interaction management software, launched its wireless application development platform, called Mobiliti, at Planet PDA this week. The company designed Mobiliti to help enterprises more quickly and easily develop, deploy and maintain productivity applications for personal digital assistants.

A recent Gartner Group report (Wireless Application Gateways: An Emerging Technology, Oct. 23, 2001) confirmed that wireless application development platforms are essential if enterprises are to successfully support the growing number of mobile devices and wireless network interfaces.

Unlike the many business-to-consumer applications on the market today that give users the ability to check weather, sports and perform other relatively simple functions, Mobiliti was designed to support mission-critical commerce functions, such as inventory order transactions and customer buying history lookups. Mobiliti accomplishes this by providing enterprises with a back-end application server and customization tools so wireless users can access databases, e-mail systems, PBXs and other corporate information and communications systems.

Mobiliti includes a graphical application generator that enables IT staff to develop a single application that runs across multiple PDAs, including the RIM BlackBerry, Palm Pilot and Pocket PC; a highly scalable, reliable architecture that can handle tens of thousands of simultaneous connections with automatic fail-over to redundant servers; encryption and security; and facilities for provisioning, administering, monitoring and supporting mobile applications, devices and users.

Mobiliti is based on Interactive Intelligence's Interaction Center Platform, the company's core communications technology used to power its award-winning contact center software, today in use by more than 800 companies worldwide.

"Unlike the thin client or WAP approach, Mobiliti is designed to give mobile workers fast, secure access to complex applications, including vital back-office systems such as Exchange 2000," Dr. Donald E. Brown, president and chief executive officer for Interactive Intelligence, said. "And unlike the thick client approach, Mobiliti enables enterprises to distribute and support applications centrally across multiple PDAs. We're really excited to finally give the enterprise a fast and cost-effective way to roll out applications for its mobile workforce."

Mobiliti is targeted at enterprises with as few as 50 wireless users, up to Fortune 500 companies with thousands of mobile employees. Wireless carriers and other service providers can also use Mobiliti to build custom wireless business services deployed on service provider networks.

Interactive Intelligence is demonstrating Mobiliti at Planet PDA (www.tmcnet.com/planetpda), booth number 201, from Dec. 4 to Dec. 6 at the Sands Convention Center in Las Vegas, NV. To download the Interactive Intelligence press kit for Planet PDA, please visit www.virtualpressoffice.com.

Interactive Intelligence product marketing director, Peggy Gritt, is also hosting a conference session at Planet PDA called "Mobile CRM Brings Customer Service Out of the Contact Center" on Dec. 4 from 9:45am to 10:45am (EA-2).
