Nokia introduces ISDN-connected enhanced dispatcher station for TETRA

The transportable dispatcher station is designed especially for small and remote - as well as temporary - dispatcher centers.

At the TETRA World Congress in Nice, December 11th, Nokia introduces a new ISDN-connected enhanced dispatcher station (EDST) for the Nokia TETRA (Terrestrial Trunked Radio) system. Thanks to its support for dial-up ISDN subscriber line connections, the Nokia EDST is ideally suited for use in remote single-station, temporary or back-up dispatcher centers, thereby complementing Nokia's existing dispatcher workstation portfolio. The product is already available for delivery.

The Nokia EDST uses commonly available, easy-to-acquire ISDN subscriber line connections, which means it can be used in most places with existing telephone lines, without the installation of additional wires or transmission equipment. Because connection is dial-up, the line is used only when the EDST is needed, saving costs. For organizations with dedicated ISDN PABX networks, the connections will in practice be free of charge. This makes the Nokia EDST ideal for providing economic dispatcher service for small, remote offices, where only one dispatcher client is needed.

Because the Nokia EDST is transportable, it is ideal for temporary command centers set up to cover long-lasting emergencies, large sports events, exhibitions, festivals or other extensive outdoor happenings. The EDST can be moved to any location with access to an ISDN subscriber line.

It is also perfect for use as a back-up command and control center in the event that the main command center must be evacuated in extreme emergencies.

Although the Nokia EDST is designed for small, temporary command centers, it still offers a full range of services, features and performance. It provides versatile individual, group and data communication services as well as speech monitoring of up to ten groups simultaneously. It also offers powerful tools for group membership management, dynamic re-grouping and subscriber administration and provisioning. In cases where different users share the same EDST, users are granted only the services needed for their jobs.

The Nokia EDST uses the standard Nokia dispatcher workstation graphical user interface, allowing any combination of Nokia's dispatcher stations to be used in the same organization. Users can switch from one to another with no additional training.

To make installation straightforward, the Nokia EDST is delivered in complete, easy-to-install packages with the computer and all necessary audio accessories.
