Pencel Releases Kinectivity 2.0, Offering First-of-its-Kind XML Interface to Mobile Data Application Platform

Kinectivity Applications Can Now Access XML Data Sources and Utilize Custom Controls

Pencel Corporation today announces the release of Kinectivity 2.0, adding an even more flexible mobile computing architecture for application developers to build and deliver custom mobile computing solutions.

Kinectivity, released earlier this year as the first mobile data application platform with a single visual environment for database, conduit and forms development, as well as application deployment, now includes an XML (Extensible Markup Language) server interface and custom controls. These new features enable Kinectivity applications to exchange data with a wider variety of data sources through XML and to be extended with specialized controls built outside of Kinectivity.

Other new features in Kinectivity 2.0 have been added to provide application developers with even greater control of the look-and-feel of their applications. Custom forms and menus provide full access to the user interface, including presence and layout of top and bottom bars as well as content and launched commands for pull-down menus. Further, application designers will now be able to apply Quick Actions to various form, control and table events. Quick Actions, such as "Load Form," "Synchronize" and "Keyboard Pop-up," give designers fast access to common functions.

The Kinectivity platform uniquely consists of an integrated synchronization engine and conduit and built-in distributed data engine that connects mobile devices directly to back-end data sources. The configurable component approach of the application tool, Kinectivity Studio, allows users to achieve rapid mobility without writing code. In addition to using custom controls, developers can extend the platform through Kinectivity's RoverScript, which is based on JavaScript.

"The initial objective for Kinectivity was to provide a single environment to define and deploy sophisticated mobile applications that integrate with enterprise data systems," says Chris Maloney, Pencel Corporation's president and CEO. "Providing application developers with access to custom controls and forms makes Kinectivity one of the most useful mobile computing toolkits available, but adding XML integration certainly makes it stand out with the ability to connect to virtually any data source."

Industry observers agree that Kinectivity provides the most powerful "define and deploy" system for mobile applications available. In naming Kinectivity as its "Top Choice" in the Application Development category, Handheld Computing Magazine raved about the Kinectivity platform in its most recent issue (Issue 4.5). "By combining a flexible server component with top-shelf visual design tools and a powerful handheld database engine, Kinectivity sets a new standard for end-to-end integration and ease of implementation."

Companies interested in evaluating Kinectivity Studio can download a 30-day evaluation version at the company's Web site, www.pencel.com. A white paper on Pencel's Define-and-Deploy approach to mobile application design is also available as a free download at the Web site.
