Per-Se Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: PSTI), a leading provider of integrated business management outsourcing services, application software and Internet-enabled connectivity with business intelligence for the healthcare industry, today announced a licensing agreement with Locker Consulting, Inc. of Tulsa, Okla., to extend the reach of its Patient1(R) computer-based patient record (CPR) solution to handheld devices with a software application called pktRounds(TM).

Handheld technology devices allow clinicians instant and convenient access to password-protected CPR clinical information in order to improve decision making and pursue best practices at the point of care. Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Okla., is the first Per-Se customer to use pktRounds.

"Handheld computing and personal digital assistants (PDAs) offer clinicians the ability to tap into vital patient information, providing easy access to data when and wherever they need it -- thus extending the usefulness of Patient1 in clinical practice," said Matthew Morgan, M.D., director of healthcare informatics in Per-Se's Application Software division. "Doctors, nurses and other clinicians can now leverage Palm(TM) and Pocket PC in clinical practice in support of patient safety and best practices."

Locker Consulting, a privately held company specializing in software for Microsoft Windows(R), Microsoft Windows CE and Palm platforms, developed the pktRounds software application that operates on Palm-compatible handhelds. In addition, the company plans to offer pktRounds on Microsoft Pocket PC devices in early 2002.

Using the handheld pktRounds software technology and a Palm-compatible handheld, clinicians can download and display selected Patient1 CPR information, such as general patient, lab and documented medication data, vital signs, and intake and output information by shift. In addition, the pktRounds handheld software includes password-protected security features to protect all patient data. Any unauthorized attempt to access pktRounds results in deletion of all patient data from the handheld device.

Saint Francis Hospital, a 972-bed facility in Tulsa, Okla., is pilot testing the pktRounds handheld technology in conjunction with Per-Se's Patient1 CPR application. "Our physicians report that this new handheld tool adds significant value to the patient care delivery process," said Dave Paulson, manager of clinical systems support, Saint Francis Health System. "Doctors can go about their rounds and have immediate access to valuable clinical data, but the value isn't limited to the rounding process. They find it helpful to have ready access to patient information throughout the day. This ready access is being embraced by a rapidly growing number of physicians from nearly all specialties."

According to Andy Locker, chief executive officer of Locker Consulting, Inc., "We are excited to partner with Per-Se to offer the healthcare industry a proven, leading-edge PDA tool that gives caregivers complete mobility in accessing important clinical data in near real time and in a secure manner during patient assessments or treatments. We expect clinicians, especially physicians, to benefit from its concise presentation of practical patient data as well as its simple, easy-to-use design. Its intuitive interface requires virtually no training to operate."
