SchlumbergerSema Selected by Verizon to Build Foundation for Next-Generation Messaging Services

SchlumbergerSema ORYX Platform to Power Verizon Messaging Services

December 4, 2001

SchlumbergerSema today announced that it has entered into an agreement with Verizon to provide enhanced messaging services to Verizon residential and small business subscribers in the United States. The innovative, new voice mail services Verizon is offering its subscribers will be powered by the ORYX(R) enhanced services platform from SchlumbergerSema.

Verizon will initially offer the enhanced voice mail services in Florida, California as well as Washington State.

The new services make it easier than ever for Verizon residential and business subscribers to keep in touch around the clock. With just the press of a button subscribers can now transfer their wireline calls to their cell phones to stay connected whenever they're away from home or the office. Another popular "never miss a call" feature is that subscribers continue receiving voice mail messages even when they're on the phone or surfing the Internet. With these enhanced services Verizon customers can also send broadcast messages to multiple people at the same time, utilize a daily reminder service to keep their schedules on track, and leave late evening or after business hours messages for other subscribers without ringing their phones.

"We are committed to the Verizon vision of excellence in the telecommunications market," stated William Coates, vice president of SchlumbergerSema telecommunications operations in North America. "SchlumbergerSema is proud to be the supplier that will help Verizon offer next generation applications, beginning with enhanced messaging and communications services."

The ORYX(R) platform from SchlumbergerSema delivers a proven, reliable solution for Verizon's current service offerings as well as a solid foundation for their next-generation services. Its flexibility and scalability enables wireless, wireline and IP carriers around the globe to seamlessly migrate their subscribers from basic messaging services to premium unified messaging and unified communications packages all on a single platform. With ORYX(R) unified messaging services, today's service providers can fulfill the ever-increasing subscriber demand for a simplified, single mailbox for voice, fax, and email messages. Unified communications extends beyond messaging convergence, giving subscribers the ability to add powerful calling services to their various forms of communications. With unified communications services from SchlumbergerSema, subscribers can manage their calls and messages at anytime from anywhere with any communications device, including wireless or wireline phone, fax, pager, personal digital assistant or laptop. As subscribers adopt new conveniences such as one-number service, one-key call back and retrieval of messages from any device, carriers can continue to expand services and increase per-subscriber revenues.

In June 2001, SchlumbergerSema announced that the modular, carrier-class ORYX(R) platform received the highest level of Network Equipment Building Standards (NEBS) certification. NEBS defines a rigid and extensive set of performance, quality, environmental and safety requirements developed by Bellcore and is often required by telecommunications service providers for equipment installed in their switching offices.
