The SyncML Initiative Announces Nine New SyncML Compliant Products 2001-12-07 Japan SyncFest A First For SyncML In Key Asia-Pacific Region

December 11, 2001

The SyncML Initiative Ltd. announced today that seven new clients and two new servers were certified as SyncML compliant at SyncFest #4 held last week in Kyoto, Japan.

Clients tested by 3Rsoft, Ericsson, MiEngine Corp, ROCOZEN, and WebSync, and two tested by Matsushita Communication Industrial Co. Ltd ; and servers tested by 3RSoft and MiEngine Corp. were certified as SyncML compliant products. A list of these and all previously certified SyncML compliant products is available at http://www.syncml.org. Organizations must successfully complete a self-test conformance process to be eligible to test products for compliance at a SyncFest event. Vendors participating at a SyncFest test their SyncML implementations for interoperability in real-time demonstrations with other vendors´ SyncML implementations. Participation in the SyncML interoperability testing process enables device manufacturers, application developers, Internet companies and wireless operators to introduce SyncML compliant products and services to the market.

SyncML member organizations including Ericsson, Extended Systems, Neosteps, Nokia, and WebSync also participated in the Kyoto SyncFest, bringing their SyncML compliant client technologies, and fusionOne, Openwave, Pumatech, Starfish and WebSync brought their SyncML compliant server technologies. Their participation greatly enhances the SyncFest process by providing compliant client and server technologies which new participants may test against.

"According to a recent study from the Yankee group, the Asia-Pacific region will rule the wireless world by 2005 with 575 million subscribers, passing Europe," said Peter Lefkin, SyncML executive director. "With this first SyncFest in the Asia-Pacific region, the SyncML Initiative demonstrates our worldwide commitment to helping mobile and wireless leaders bring SyncML compliant products to market."

The next SyncFest is scheduled for January 23-25 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. A calendar of 2002 SyncFest events, and information about the SyncML conformance and interoperability process can be found on http://www.syncml.org. The premiere public event for the SyncML Initiative, SyncML 2002 Congress, is scheduled for January 28-30 also in Amsterdam.
