Companies Collaborating to Create a Framework for Rapid Location-Based Services Development and Deployment

December 17, 2001

Telcontar, the provider of the premier software platform for location-based services, today announced the company is working with Oracle (NASDAQ: ORCL - news), the world's largest enterprise software company, to provide location-based services by integrating with Oracle9i Application Server Release 2.0, using open APIs and integration framework. The framework utilizes the wireless functionality of Oracle9i Application Server Release 2 and Telcontar's Drill Down ServerT 2.1, delivering high-performance location-based services (LBS) including point-of-interest selection and sorting, map display, routing, driving directions and real-time traffic reports.

"By embedding our technology within Oracle9i Application Server Release 2, Telcontar is able to offer our customers the ability to quickly deploy key location-based services as well as develop their own applications to access the Oracle9i Database," said Eric Carlson, president and CEO of Telcontar. "It's a powerful, cost-effective solution for companies interested in offering data-intensive LBS to their customers and employees."

The combination of Telcontar Drill Down Server and Oracle9i Application Server Release 2 allows companies to develop location-based services utilizing map datasets from a variety of sources. Proximity queries such as "find all of the gas stations along my route" can also be performed quickly and easily. In addition, the two company's technologies enable location-based service providers to offer their customers high-performance, point-to-point routing and turn-by-turn directions.

Oracle9i Application Server is the only complete software for developing and deploying applications that can be accessed via Web, wireless and voice interfaces. The wireless capabilities in Oracle9i Application Server offer personalization, location, messaging and content management features that form a powerful infrastructure for delivering, deploying and managing any type of content or application to any device.
