W-Link Signs Strategic Alliance Agreement With WIDCOMM

December 13, 2001

W-Link Systems Inc. and WIDCOMM Inc. today jointly announced their partnership in the development of short-range wireless products.

W-Link Systems Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of D-Link, a leading worldwide provider of innovative wireless products and solutions. WIDCOMM is a wireless connectivity platform company, providing software and designs to enable Bluetooth and 802.11 wireless connectivity. This announcement signifies the start of a long-term strategic alliance to jointly develop, manufacture and market short-range wireless products.

Under terms of the agreement, W-Link will license WIDCOMM's BTE (Bluetooth Embedded Software), BTW (Bluetooth Communications Software for Windows), and BTW-CE (Bluetooth Communications Software for Windows CE). W-Link will also manufacture the BlueGate 2500 Access Point for WIDCOMM, and will license WIDCOMM technology in order to develop and manufacture an access point product for the SOHO market. WIDCOMM and W-Link will also jointly develop and market other Bluetooth-enabled and 802.11x wirelessly-enabled products.

This alliance will link WIDCOMM's Bluetooth wireless connectivity expertise with W-Link's product development and manufacturing strength. It will also allow WIDCOMM to leverage the established worldwide distribution channels of D-Link, W-Link's parent company.

According to Dr. John Chow, President of W-Link, "The strategic alliance with WIDCOMM is win-win. It's mutually beneficial because the two companies complement one another in expertise and because the convergence of our product road maps creates natural synergies."

"D-Link is a global leader in wireless LAN access points," said Hiep Pham, President and CEO of WIDCOMM. "We're excited to collaborate with W-Link, to combine our technical strengths with their manufacturing, distribution and marketing expertise. Our shared goal is to bring new wireless solutions and products to market quickly and efficiently."
