AsiaInfo's Wireless Network Acceleration Software Wins First Contract from Shanxi Mobile

New Product Fuels Company's Continous Growth

January 8, 2002

AsiaInfo Holdings, Inc. (Nasdaq:ASIA), a leading provider of telecom network integration and software solutions in China, today announced that it has signed a contract to provide Shanxi Mobile, a provincial subsidiary of China Mobile, with its newly developed network optimization software, AIVelosurf.

This contract marks the first win for AIVelosurf, an additional new product launched by AsiaInfo in late 2001 and designed to accelerate data transmission via wireless data networks. Thanks to the breadth and depth of the product features, AsiaInfo was chosen for the project over two leading international vendors. With embedded data compressing technology, AIVelosurf is able to speed up narrow-band network access by two to six times and support carriers-scale capacity.

Developed entirely in-house using proprietary technology, AIVelosurf is designed to address bandwidth bottlenecks at the "last mile" of a 2.5G network and requires minimal customization efforts. By offering applications that demand high-speed data transmission, carriers are able to generate new revenue streams from existing wireless data infrastructure without much additional investment, long before 3G networks reach maturity.

"AsiaInfo's product strategy is once again endorsed by the market and the success of our new software further demonstrates that our research and development team is highly innovative and customer-driven," said Steve Zhang, senior vice president and general manager of Software Products at AsiaInfo. "It is clear that carriers have increased their investment in software solutions that optimize networks, reduce cost and increase revenue. As one of the largest telecom software providers in China, AsiaInfo will continue to respond to customer needs with high quality software solutions."
