BYEDESK.COM WIRELESS INTERNET TRIAL SERVICE FROM FUJITSU REACHES 10,000-USER MILESTONE

User Survey Confirms that E-mail is the Killer Application for Wireless Data

CTIA WIRELESS 99 -- New Orleans, Feb. 8, 1999 -- Over 10,000 end-users in North America are now using Fujitsu Software Corp.'s (FSC) premier wireless Internet trial service, Byedesk.com to send and receive instant two-way e-mails as well as to access wireless information services (e.g. stock quotes and driving directions) from wireless devices, such as the popular PCS cellular phones, the PalmPilot personal digital assistant (PDA), and alpha-numeric and two-way pagers. Driven by the initial success of ByeDesk.com and by industry analysts' forecast of triple-digit growth rates for the wireless market, FSC announced today that it will extend ByeDesk's trial promotion to offer mobile communication services hosted at www.byedesk.com.

"Integrating ByeDesk's messaging service with our E-Commerce package, WebCatalog, enhances the online shopping experience for our customers, by providing instant phone notification when important sales occur," said John Hill, vice president of marketing for Pacific Coast Software, a leading supplier of Web-based software solutions. "We also feel 'connected' to our Web site without being online. If a problem occurs with a transaction, our site automatically notifies us on our cell phone."

Designed to keep up with today's mobile society, www.ByeDesk.com is powered by the intelligent wireless data gateway, ByeDesk Link. This server-based software can be accessed from any Web browser; it is intuitive and simple to use, allowing mobile end-users access to their electronic data communications from anyplace, anytime. According to renowned futurist Paul Saffo of the Institute for the Future in Palo Alto, Calif., the new status symbol among today's highly nomadic workforce will be "what equipment they don't carry around with them." In the workplace of the future, corporate intranet servers will carry the "baggage of intelligence", so that mobile workers can travel lightly without sacrificing desired data communications access and computing power. ByeDesk is a perfect example of this new paradigm, setting a new standard in mobile communications.

What end-users are saying about ByeDesk

According to a recent user survey, more than two-thirds of ByeDesk end-users are using the service on a weekly basis, with 40 percent reported using it daily. When asked what they liked best about ByeDesk, users overwhelmingly reported, "its ability to send and receive e-mails to a cellular phone, it's the killer application." Being able to send e-mail from a desktop computer over the Internet to a cell phone or pager ranked second. End-users ranked ByeDesk.com's top three features as:

* E-mail routing - ByeDesk Link's Message Agent allows users to send and receive messages from the Internet, a PC or wireless devices without having to dial an access number. Special filtering capabilities only lets the important senders through.

* Web monitoring - ByeDesk Link's Web Agents work on the user's behalf to monitor information on Web pages, and it then sends a notification message to your wireless device if a change is detected.

* Information access - Users can specify which content-rich information ByeDesk Link should proactively push to their device. Users currently have access to door-to-door driving directions, restaurant reviews, headline news, stock quotes and sports from their cellular phone, pager or PDA.

"We were positively surprised by the interest in our trial service, especially the fact that a high percentage of people are using the system daily," said Bo Sorensen, director of FSC's Mobile and Wireless Solutions Group. "Our user survey results prove that people are more mobile than ever, and that e-mail, in it various forms, is now an accepted method for business communications, making ByeDesk Link a natural extension to intranets."
