UP.Link Platform To Enable Wireless Internet Computing Services On Display of Nextel Phones

NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana (February 8, 1999) ¾ CTIA's WIRELESS '99 ¾ Unwired Planet, Inc. (UP) today announced Nextel Communications has licensed the Unwired Planet™ UP.Link™; Platform for use in its family of online wireless Internet computing services called Nextel.net.* These services are designed to combine and leverage the power of the Internet and Nextel's National Network; integrating voice and data while extending Internet services and applications to Nextel customers.

Nextel customers will be able to access the Nextel.net services using wireless portable handsets with mobile IP network capability. The installation of Unwired Planet's UP.Browser;™ in Nextel digital wireless mobile phones will enable those handsets to deliver standards-based, secure and scalable interactive applications, without adding to the cost or size of handsets. Nextel will offer innovative electronic customer care applications and extensive information services for their subscribers.
