REDWOOD CITY, Calif. (March 31, 1999) ¾ Unwired Planet, Inc. (UP) today announced the first European GSM commercial launch of an Email and Internet-based information service utilizing the Unwired Planet™ UP.Link™ software platform. Cegetel's customers who purchase the e.medi@ capable mobile phones equipped with Unwired Planet's UP.Browser™ software will have access to their Email and news, financial, travel and traffic information services right from the LCD display of their phones. The first phone to implement the e.medi@ service will be the Alcatel One-Touch Pocket.

"Our mission has been to provide products and services that enable the convergence of the Internet and mobile telephony," said Alain Rossmann, chairman and chief executive officer for Unwired Planet.
