SAGEM DEMONSTRATES FIRST DUAL BAND GSM HANDSET RUNNING UNWIRED PLANET MICROBROWSER

PARIS, France (18 March 1999) ¾ SAGEM and Unwired Planet, Inc. (UP) today announced the demonstration of the first dual band GSM handsets running UP.Browser,™ Unwired Planet's industry-leading microbrowser for mobile phones. SAGEM will demonstrate the model running UP. Browser at CeBIT (Hall 14, Booth # H44), from 18 March to 24 in Hannover, Germany.

Users of SAGEM's wireless handsets running UP.Browser gain fully interactive access to their own Email and Personal Organizer, and key Web-based information from Intranets and www information sites, including financial services, news updates, entertainment listings, directories and electronic com-merce applications. Combined with SAGEM's existing user interface software, the Unwired Planet™ microbrowser gives wireless network operators a new way to reach subscribers and add innovative services, with seamless integration of all voice and data features.

With over ten active trials, Unwired Planet is leading the push for the deployment of WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) in GSM networks. By incorporating UP.Browser into its GSM 900, 1800 and dual band handsets range, SAGEM is paving the way for the GSM community by providing optimized built-in data features with improved response time.

SAGEM was one of the first handset vendors to see the benefits of the Internet/mobile phone industries converging and has worked with Unwired Planet since 1997. SAGEM's subscribers will be able to fully benefit from wireless Internet access on a dual band wireless handset integrating the UP microbrowser software.
