GEOWORKS UNVEILS NEW CONSUMER FOCUS FOR WIRELESS SERVICE OFFERINGS

Free, Ad-Sponsored Services to be Offered Directly to Digital Consumers

ALAMEDA, Calif. (June 14, 1999) - Geoworks Corporation, (NASDAQ: GWRX), a provider of wireless e-commerce and information services for the consumer market, today announced for the first time that it plans to launch a series of wireless information services for the general consumer during the next several quarters. This refines the company's business model to focus on generating revenues from consumer transactions and advertising sponsorship of the services.

Available nationwide, the wireless services will work on most carriers communications networks and will be offered directly to consumers. Services will be free to consumers because the services will be sponsored by advertising.

The wireless services will range from specific e-commerce applications, such as ways to make shopping more convenient and economical, to general information services, such as traffic updates or personal reminders. Consumers will be able to easily sign up for these services and establish personal profiles on a dedicated Web page. Best of all, these services are especially designed for use by the growing universe of text-capable wireless communication devices, such as digital PCS phones and alphanumeric pagers.

"With this announcement, we are demonstrating that Geoworks is now delivering on our vision of creating compelling services for wireless users," said Dave Grannan, president and CEO of Geoworks. "In the past, Geoworks has marked its milestones on the number of units shipped using our software. With the introduction of these new services, we will begin to measure our success by the number of subscribers we attract, and use that number to bring in more advertising sponsors who want to reach the qualified wireless user market."

More than 67 million people in the United States currently use wireless devices, 28 million of whom have text-capable devices, according to the Strategis Group research firm. Geoworks plans to provide these digital subscribers with targeted and convenient services from the Internet directly to their wireless devices.

The new information services will utilize Geoworks' powerful proprietary Premion Server+ technology, which allows any type of content, including Internet content, to be customized and delivered to wireless communications devices. Geoworks intends to introduce these consumer services in both the United States and the United Kingdom.

Geoworks developed its advertising and transaction-based strategy after working with a national market research company to determine consumer acceptance of advertising in information services. Geoworks has prepared a comprehensive report detailing the results of this research, citing qualitative and quantitative data, which the company is sharing with advertisers and content suppliers.
