Toronto, Canada, July 20, 1999 - Diversinet Corp. (NASDAQ Small Cap: DVNT, CDN: DVNT), a leader in providing security solutions for wireless e-commerce, today announced it has joined the Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) Forum. The WAP Forum includes wireless industry leaders such as Ericsson, Nokia, Motorola and Phone.com. WAP is the de-facto worldwide standard for providing Internet communications and advanced data services on digital mobile phones, pagers, personal digital assistants and other wireless devices.
Diversinet intends to work closely with the WAP Forum and the WAP Security Group to create its standards-based security solutions developed in an open forum as the marketplace has come to expect. The company is one of the first WAP Forum members to provide security solutions based on PKI (public key infrastructure) technology.
Diversinet helps make wireless e-commerce a reality by providing client/server security software optimized for critical applications, such as banking, stock trading, retail purchases, discount coupons and promotions. These applications are driving the international market for the Internet-enabled wireless products.
"Wireless subscribers in the United States, Europe and Asia are already trading stocks, accessing their bank balances and receiving promotional offers over pagers and mobile phones, " says Nagy Moustafa, president and CEO of Diversinet. "However, for the advantages of real-time e-commerce to reach hundreds of millions of people around the world, its crucial to provide complete security for wireless transactions," Moustafa says. "Diversinet can provide end to end security through our patented Public Key Infrastructure (PKI)."
"We are pleased that Diversinet has chosen to join the WAP Forum", commented Chuck Parrish, Executive Vice-President of Phone.com and Vice Chairman of the WAP Forum Board of Directors. "Security is a critical consideration in wireless e-commerce and Diversinet is positioned to contribute to the WAP Forums efforts in this regard."
Diversinets Passport Certificate Server enables organizations to efficiently manage their own public key systems. The Passport Certificate Servers low-memory certificates, online validation and registration authority make it ideal for implementing wireless security solutions.
The software is designed to effectively leverage the limited memory, processing power, battery life and data rates of wireless products. Diversinets Root Certificate Rollover technology helps solve the problem of root certificate management for handheld devices.
