Avenir is the first Norwegian consultancy company that has been chosen as a member of the WAP Forum. The WAP Forum is a co-operation between 200 leading companies within mobile communication. The purpose is to develop a joint standard using WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) technology. Through the membership, Avenir will exchange and further develop its expertise with other core companies.
The WAP technology makes it possible to receive and send Internet-based information to mobile terminals i.e. mobile phones and electronic agendas (PDA). WAP is going to become the dominating standard within this area. The technology will enable user-friendly access to information and services world-wide.
Exponential growth is expected within the market and the technology will strongly influence many industries – not only within telecommunication. Avenir has wide industrial expertise and business understanding, which will be central in implementing WAP solutions. The company has established “the WAP Factory” – an expert group of 15 core consultants. Avenir offers WAP services within application development and the corporate use of WAP technology.
Use of WAP will open significant new distribution channels for e-commerce, payment services, information services and entertainment. The first WAP services will be implemented during the autumn.
