Comverse Network Systems Announces InfoPeeler™ Wireless Internet Portal: Delivers Information and Content From Internet and Other Sources to Wireless Subscribers

Wireless Operators Can Reduce Churn and Attract New Revenues Through Information and Content Services Delivered to Both WAP and Non-WAP Handsets

Comverse Network Systems, a division of Comverse Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: CMVT), and the world's leading supplier of enhanced services platforms to wireless and wireline service providers, today announced the availability of its InfoPeeler wireless Internet portal. The InfoPeeler portal, which is part of Comverse's mobile data and wireless Internet strategy, enables wireless service providers to create information and content services, allowing subscribers to receive information from the Internet and other sources, delivered to the device of their choice.

Through Comverse Network Systems' InfoPeeler Internet portal, wireless operators can enable their subscribers to access information based on their personal needs, interests, and preferences. The InfoPeeler portal links wireless service subscribers to information from a variety of sources, such as the Internet, news agencies, corporate Intranets, and commercial content providers via the subscriber's wireless handset. Information, such as stock quotes, weather reports, and phone directories, can be delivered either immediately, in "pull" mode as a response to the subscriber's request, or in "push" mode according to a pre-determined schedule.

Because Comverse's InfoPeeler wireless portal is device-independent, subscribers can have information delivered to whatever device is most convenient for them at any moment. These services can be made available both to subscribers with WAP- (Wireless Application Protocol) and non-WAP handsets. A subscriber can access services using a mobile handset and have information and content delivered to the wireless device, to a fax machine, to an e-mail address, to voice mail, or have the information read to them over the telephone utilizing text-to-speech technology. And, packaged with Comverse's Tel@GO™ voice activated services portfolio, subscribers can navigate information and content services via natural language spoken commands.

According to Gideon A. Be'ery, President of Comverse Network Systems' Mobile Data Division, "Comverse Network Systems deployed its mobile data strategy earlier this year when it founded its Mobile Data Division. InfoPeeler represents the next step in Comverse's mobile data strategy. As part of that strategy, the company is committed to available standards and supports WAP 1.1. Because it acts as a gateway, InfoPeeler gives subscribers greater control over the kinds of information they truly want and need, and delivers it to them when and where they need it most."

Comverse Network Systems is demonstrating its InfoPeeler wireless Internet portal at World Telecom '99 in booth 1130.02, USA Pavilion, October 10-17, 1999 in Geneva, Switzerland. Specific demonstrations on InfoPeeler for the press will be on Sunday, October 10 from 11:30AM - Noon and Monday, October 11 from 10:00-10:30AM.
