Ericsson's WAP browser will be exclusively distributed worldwide by AU-System

Ericsson and AU-system today signed an exclusive international distribution agreement for Ericsson's WAP Browser, which-AU-System also has helped, develop. Ericsson recently announced that they will make their WAP 1.1 browser available at favorable conditions to device manufacturers, operators, applications developers and other WAP players.

The agreement that was signed today gives AU-System the exclusive right to distribute the WAP Browser used in Ericsson's mobile telephones and terminals to other manufacturers worldwide. AU-System's offer also includes consultancy services for adaptation, e.g. for the user interface. Ericsson's WAP Browser is the world's first commercially available WAP component that meets all requirements in the WAP 1.1 specification. The browser can be found in Ericsson's already released mobile companion MC 218, and in the recently presented mobile telephone R320. The focus for AU-System's involvement has been to assure the product's platform independence. This openness combined with the distribution agreement now gives other suppliers access to world leading WAP technology.

"Today, Ericsson are providing WAP handsets, portals, management consultant, applications, developers and gateways," says Jan Ahrenbring, Vice President Marketing and Communications at Ericsson Mobile Communications. "Ericsson's started the WAP forum and is the main driving force behind the WAP specifications and the evolution to 3G compliance."

"A functioning infrastructure is required in order to deliver the full potential of WAP. AU-System now offer service development as well as components in order to further drive infrastructure construction," says Anders Cedervall, president of AU-System.

The WAP business within AU-System already has 130 active consultants with more than 200-man year's experience. This competence has been built since the forming of the WAP Forum in 1997.
