France Telecom LIVE GPRS Data and Internet services over an Alcatel full scale network platform

The Alcatel GPRS end to end network platform comprises all the necessary infrastructure elements for the radio, switching and routing functions and the dedicated software. France Telecom will show a number of innovative mobile data and Internet services over a live multimedia network. These customer applications include localization through a multimedia tourist guide customized for Telecom'99, e-mail, image and sound transfer through Internet accesses.

An Alcatel worldwide premiere at Telecom 99: WaP on GPRS

Alcatel is a front runner in GPRS and was the first vendor to launch WAP commercial services and handsets. Today, Alcatel is the first to implement WAP on GPRS. The Alcatel GPRS solution is being demonstrated on the Alcatel stand at Telecom 99 with spotlights on mobile data. A full scale GPRS platform - including radio infrastructure (EVOLIUM™ BSS) and the Alcatel 1000 GPRS core network (SGSN and GGSN) - is for the first time ever using the full dynamic allocation of GPRS channels on the air interface. It provides access to the Alcatel HomeTop™ solutions thanks to GPRS terminals integrating a WAP browser. Alcatel demonstrates that WAP runs also on GPRS and the "ALWAYS ON" service is a key advantage of GPRS.
