OKOBANK Group, Nokia and IBM in co-operation: Banking Services with WAP-phones

OKOBANK Group's wireless services are complemented by WAP Account and Payment facilities. Together with WAP Investment services, which OKOBANK Group provided as the first bank in Finland, and services opening in the beginning of the year, clients can take care of their banking by WAP-phones or by other wireless main devices supporting WAP-standard.

The services accomplished through the co-operation with Nokia and IBM will provide clients with facilities to follow their account transactions as well as execute money transfers and payments. Also Visa card details will be accessible.

The OKOBANK Group will apply banking services supplied by Nokia WAP Server programme, the final version of which has just recently been published. In addition to Nokia and IBM, OKOBANK Group's WAP-project includes Yomi Media, which together with IBM is responsible for the execution of the services.

Okobank Group believes that services executed by WAP-phones will soon become familiar among clients.

According to Director Matti Korkeela from OKOBANK Group Central Cooperative, we will have approximately 60 000 clients by the end of the next year using banking services based on WAP.

It is important for Nokia that a bank is able to provide services to its clients equally in all its electronic service channels.

According to Nokia Marketing Director Jukka Riivari, WAP-programmes and WAP-phones enable the access of banking services regardless of time and place.

IBM Bank and Insurance Sector Director Jukka Ryhänen considers OKOBANK Group's WAP-services as an excellent solution in its entirety.

The new WAP-system will smoothly integrate in the existing service channel selection. Ryhänen promises that the credibility and safety of the system is garanteed by the co-operation of IBM and Nokia.

OKOBANK Group was the first bank in the world in 1996 to bring GSM banking services with payment facilities into market. At the moment there are over 170 000 GSM-service agreements. The wireless banking service made for Nokia Communicator was produced first in the world in 1998.
