OmniSky (Formerly OpenSky) and AT&T Wireless Services Team Up to Offer Nationwide Email and Internet Services on Palm V Devices

AT&T is Premier Carrier of OmniSky's Suite of Integrated Wireless Services

OmniSky Corporation, formerly OpenSky, and AT&T Wireless Services today announced that they are teaming up to bring nationwide wireless email and Internet services to Palm V users. Under an agreement announced today, AT&T Wireless Services will be the premier carrier for OmniSky's suite of services, providing coverage throughout the US via its high-performing, highly scalable wireless infrastructure. The deal also includes a marketing agreement, through which AT&T will support OmniSky's efforts to market the service.

OmniSky, formed in June by former executives from 3Com and Infoseek, will offer a full-featured integrated wireless service designed to keep busy mobile professionals in touch with business-critical information when they are on the road and away from traditional email and web access. Initially available on the Palm V organizer, the service will allow instant, wireless access to personal email accounts, web-enabled Palm applications, web-clipping services such as stock quotes and weather, as well as web site browsing. A public beta program begins in mid-December, with the major introduction slated for Q1 2000. The service will be offered on a range of other handheld devices in the future, including Windows CE devices, pagers and WAP-enabled (wireless application protocol) telephones.

"AT&T Wireless knows that mobile, wireless access to emails and the Internet is rapidly becoming a requirement for business professionals," said Dan Hesse, president of AT&T Wireless Services. "We are committed to delivering the most innovative and exciting new wireless solutions to these mobile users. We are impressed with OmniSky's approach in bringing simplicity, integration and real Internet capabilities to these mobile professionals, and are pleased to be chosen as their premier telecommunications carrier."

"AT&T has an expansive vision for the future of communications," said Patrick McVeigh, CEO of OmniSky. "We share this vision, and are delighted to partner with the leader to make the mobile Internet a reality."

The OmniSky service is being made available on a limited basis to the first 5,000 Palm V owners who sign up for this unique customer beta program. The goal of the beta is to ensure an extraordinary customer experience by having these initial users provide feedback on all aspects of the service after integrating it into their daily life and work patterns. They will be rewarded with special pricing - $299 for a custom-designed OmniSky™ Minstrel™ V wireless modem and unlimited nationwide usage of OmniSky's services through March 2000. After that time, these "charter" users will be offered a 15% lifetime discount on the lowest published rate for the service. The offer is accompanied by a 30-day money-back guarantee. Users will be able to sign up at the OmniSky website or by calling 800.860.5767.
