Telia Mobile, the largest mobile operator in the Nordic region, is to extend its WAP services after signing an agreement with Nokia for the supply of the Nokia Artus Messaging Platform. Telia Mobile, based in Sweden, offers WAP over its MyDOF (Department of the Future) platform. DOF is a GSM subscription integrated with the Internet allowing subscribers access to a range of services including information and transactions, such as buying plane tickets using mobile phones. Telia recently launched trials of WAP services, using the Nokia 7110 media phone and Nokia's WAP Gateway.
"Telia is pleased to continue its relationship with Nokia and to be able to use the Nokia Artus Messaging Platform to facilitate additional advanced WAP services for our DOF subcribers, a futuristic platform that encompasses all the data-related services," said Stefan Fägerhall, Executive Vice President of Telia Mobile, "The underlying philosophy is to help mobile subscribers use their phones for more than just voice calls."
Nokia and Telia have been working together in the development of WAP services since 1998 using Nokia infrastructure and phones. With MyDOF, subscribers can access a comprehensive office package featuring innovative Internet-based communications solutions. Or they can access Internet services wherever they happen to be. They can also go to one central mailbox to access all types of messages, fax, SMS, voicemail and email. E-mail can be sent and retrieved directly from a mobile phone.
