Availability of Entrust.net Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) Server Certificates Coincides with commercial availability of corporate WAP servers from Nokia
Entrust® Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ: ENTU), the global leader in solutions that bring trust to e-business, announced today that its business unit, Entrust.net, will offer the first commercial Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) Server digital certificate issuing services. This first availability of WAP Server certificates corresponds with this week's commercial availability of the Nokia WAP Server (NYSE:NOK). Building on last month's announcement of the company's aggressive wireless strategy, today's delivery of the first digital certificates for the mobile Internet platform reinforces Entrust's leadership position in this exploding market. Entrust is building the framework that will allow mobile phones to be not only the ubiquitous consumer and e-business transaction "on-ramp" to next generation e-commerce, but the global point-of-sale terminal of choice.
The worldwide mobile data market is projected to be $80 billion by 20101, and the global penetration of mobile phones alone is expected to grow to 1 billion by 20032. Entrust is leveraging its industry-leading position as the first to deliver products and services that secure mobile Internet transactions such as the purchase of goods and services, the trading of stock, banking transactions, bill presentment, bill payment and other business and commerce.
"We welcome Entrust's support to the standard PKI-based WAP/WTLS security, that is implemented in the Nokia WAP Server," said Heikki Heinaro, General Manager, Business Development, Nokia Wireless Software Solutions. "The availability of Entrust.net WAP Server certificates for the Nokia WAP Server will help our customers to fully leverage the power and potential of E-Business as the mobile Internet market explodes."
Entrust.net WAP Server certificates will enable new and existing web merchants to securely conduct transactions with mobile consumers. These new secure wireless transaction merchant portals will expand the value of e-business between the mobile user and the Internet e-business sites.
Entrust is once again reiterating its leadership position in the WAP market by delivering the first trust solutions to mobile e-business transactions," said John Ryan, president and CEO, Entrust Technologies Inc. "Enabling our customers to capitalize on the forecasted exponential growth of wireless e-business is a manifestation of the aggressive strategy we announced recently. Our rapid delivery of these capabilities demonstrates our commitment to both our customers and this market."
Entrust Technologies overall wireless strategy uniquely combines the company's existing leadership in the standards community with membership in new standards bodies, new certification authority services and new and existing products and partners to offer customers a comprehensive portfolio of products, services and partners that bring trust to wireless e-business transactions.
