Puma Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: PUMA), a leading provider of mobile device management and synchronization software, and Sterling Commerces Managed Systems Division (MSD, formerly XcelleNet), a leading provider of remote systems management solutions, announced today a strategic partnership between the two organizations. Initially, the two companies will jointly develop Enterprise Intellisync, a synchronization and management solution for handheld devices that will merge Pumas Intellisync technology and the MSD CONNECT:Manage solution to extend enterprise systems management across all mobile device platforms, from wireless phones to PDAs to laptop computers.
Enterprise Intellisync will allow corporations to completely integrate handheld devices into the network by centralizing the management of critical enterprise data. Furthermore, the solution will provide increased support and maintenance capabilities enabling IT managers to control and view applications and data residing on individual PCs and handheld devices from a centralized location. By consolidating the management and control of handhelds, the total cost of ownership of these devices will decrease dramatically as support costs decline and user productivity accelerates.
As handheld devices are rapidly entering the corporate space with professionals relying on them as key business tools, Puma has pioneered the technologies needed to fully extend the use of these devices in the corporate enterprise, said Brad Rowe, Puma president and CEO. With the expertise of Sterling Commerces Managed Systems Division, the company that created remote systems management, Puma can now offer IT managers a tool to solve the dilemma of managing these devices effectively and allow corporations to fully integrate handheld devices across the board. Now companies will have the ability to manage the full range of mobile computing devices - from notebooks to PDAs to smartphones.
ENTERPRISE INTELLISYNC - CENTRALIZING NETWORK MANAGEMENT
Enterprise Intellisync will facilitate the secure and cost-effective deployment of handheld computing solutions in the enterprise by providing the centralized control of all corporate data including personal contact and calendaring information on the desktop, customized views of server-based information, and back-end database information. Enterprise Intellisync will enable IT managers to install and configure Pumas Enterprise solutions, including the Intellisync product line and Satellite Forms software, from a single location rather than working on each individual desktop, saving a vast amount of time and money. Enterprise Intellisync will give IT managers the ability to support and maintain the applications and data that reside on individual PCs and handhelds from one centralized location. The unique design of Enterprise Intellisync adds another layer of security to handhelds in the corporate environment because it allows IT managers to select what type of data is centrally deployed to each employee. Enterprise Intellisync will give end users reliable access to up-to-date corporate information while providing their organizations with central distribution of software applications and updates, standardization of device configurations and critical backup capabilities, all from one management console. Given Pumas position as the leader in the areas of synchronization and PDA device management, it only makes sense that we partner with them to develop the most effective tool to manage the flow of information throughout the enterprise, said Joe Owen, vice president of business development for MSD. Enterprise Intellisync will give corporations the ability to maximize the potential of handhelds with the most cost-efficient and comprehensive solution available.
