Research In Motion Renews Supply Agreement With Lipman USA

RIM's OEM Technology To Be Used In Wireless Point-Of-Sale Terminals

Research In Motion Limited (Nasdaq: RIMM, TSE: RIM) today announced it has signed an agreement to supply its new advanced OEM radio modems to Lipman USA Inc., a leading provider of integrated portable wireless electronic funds transfer (EFT) and wireless point-of-sale (POS) terminals. The agreement has a value of approximately US $1.8 million (approximately CDN $2.7 million) with deliveries scheduled over the next 12 months. The radio modems will be a key component in Lipman's NURIT family of wireless EFT/POS terminals.

Lipman's EFT terminals will incorporate RIM's high-performance radio modems to conduct debit and credit card authorization over nationwide wireless networks, allowing a faster, more flexible and more cost-effective service for remote and temporary locations than traditional dial-up authorization services. Lipman's solution enables retailers to offer electronic transactions in a wider variety of mobile environments including special events, conventions, stadiums, fairs, theme parks, ferries, ticket booths, kiosks, concession stands, parking lots, mobile businesses, home services and home delivery.

"RIM's radio modem technology offers state-of-the-art performance and reliability making it a key feature of our wireless terminal solutions," said Mony Zenou, President & COO of Lipman USA Inc.. "Integrating RIM's wireless technology into our EFT and POS solutions allows us to provide our clients with high-speed, cost-effective debit and credit card transactions in mobile or unwired settings. The improved performance and smaller size fit perfectly into our recent release of the NURIT 3010, a handheld wireless terminal that will serve the delivery market."

"Demand for wireless point-of-sale solutions is growing in popularity among retailers as a fast, cost-effective alternative to the fixed landline POS terminals used in typical retail outlets," said David Werezak, Vice President of Marketing at Research In Motion. "The trend toward cashless transactions has had a significant impact on businesses that operate in a cash-based mobile environment. Lipman's wireless EFT and POS solutions enable operational efficiencies and improved customer service for companies that conduct commerce in mobile, temporary or remote locations."

RIM's next-generation 802D and 902M OEM radio modems excel in several fundamental areas including size, transmit power, receiver sensitivity, output efficiency, noise immunity, power consumption, reliability and ease-of-integration. Key features include:
