Early April, Yahoo teamed with Online Anywhere to develop access to the yahoo portal from any device. This move confirmed the growing interest from the internet portals, to move into new devices, like cellular phones and internet tv's.

Later the same month, Palm announced that 3com would open for other manufacturers to produce palm computes. This was a new move from Palm, which so far had been keeping the total value chain under it own wings.

The interest for Bluetooth increased during the month, and ZDNet ran a series of bluetooth articles.

In mid April, Unwired Plane, one of the funders of the WAP forum, changed its name to phone (www.phone.com). These changes were a part of the preparation for an IPO, which will be implemented later this spring.

An interesting news for april was Microsoft bying jump (www.jump.com). Jump is a concept integrating scheduling, email, contact list, todo list and groupware with web access. With this, Microsoft confirmed the trend of messaging and organiserts becoming a core part of the big portals. Microsoft will probably use this solution for the MSN portal, with a growing number of wireless users using wap or other technologies to access the service.

The month also brought information about unified messaging, both Sun and Cisco were moving into unified messaging during the month. Unified Messaging is belived to be an important product for the future, and mobic will watch the development for you.

For each month that passes by, there are more news covering GPRS and third generation wireless networks. The heat is on, and you should be prepared to hear a lot about GPRS and wireless multimedia networks for the next few years.
