Hi, sorry if this is a daft question, but I'm new to this technology and due to an untimely staff departure I've been landed with a project that uses SMS as a transport for a protocol that can download and configure an embedded device. The current protocol is terrible; the layers are not clearly defined and are merged with application specific data. As the project is already based on SMS I'm stuck with it, what I'm thinking is that I'd like to use SMS as a transparent transport for TCP/IP or a similar protocol so when I move away from SMS to direct GSM calls, landlines etc. I don’t have to re-write the protocol. Does this make sense? Has anybody already done this or similar? If so do you have details, URL’s etc?
