No you can not use anything other than WMLScript in a WAP Application. However you are in luck because WMLScript is very much like ECMAScript aka JavaScript. All you really need to know is a little bit about the Phones browsers DOM (Document Object Model) Now we are just talking about what script can be interpreted by the phones browser (eg UP.Browser) But as you already suspected you can use any number of Server Side Web Scripting to produce dynamic WML Content using such technologies as ASP(uses VBScript or JScript[MS JavaScript]) or Cold Fusion(Proprietary Tag Based) or JSP and so on..
