Trine,

Bluetooth is a solution like IrDA, made for
short distance data exchange, but bluetooth is radio based,
not light based. Bluetooth will give you a connection from
you mobile to you notebook, for example, with your mobile still
in you pocket. Or you will be able to pay with your SIM card in
your bluetooth enabled mobile instead of your credid card.

WAP will give you internet access on a device with limited display
(like a mobile or pda) and limited keyboard. You will be able to do mobile
e-commerce through WAP, for example.

So they both are critical for the future of handheld devices, because they
are the short- and longrange data connection standards

AFAIK, EPOC will bring build-in support for bluetooth and WAP.
Besides, EPOC will support Java, so you will be able to have
fat clients on your EPOC devices, talking with other systems
through WAP a/o bluetooth.

Quite nice :-)

Regards,
Alex

: Microsoft? At the moment I don't quite understand what
: exactly part Bluetooth and WAP plays in this battle
: or if they are operating on a totally different level
: than the operating systems, wheather it is vital for
: the two companies to be a member of them and in such
: case how that would help?
: I have read your article Colliding Worlds and find it
: very interesting, and would like to hear more.

: Thank you again for your time

: Best,
: Trine
