There are different kind of WAP Server around. The
only one free to access for developers is AFAIK Nokia WAP Server.

Nokia WAP Server is both, a gateway and a server.
As a gateway, it translates WEB protocol stack to WAP protocoll stack. It's in between the ppp dialup
of the handheld device and the content server. The gateway is able to fetch the info
from any WEB server, but also from a database or a mail server.

As a server, it holds the content that is available through the GW. Having both
server and GW directly connected in one software, the server has
access to WAP internal info (like phone number of the requester in
case of WAP over SMS, bearer type, some GSM specific info in case
of WAP over csd and so on)

Check the info at forum.nokia.com on their WAP server, gives a pretty good
insight how everything fits together.

: : How is the WAP Server physically connected to the whole system? What are the protocols and interfaces used? Where is the server connected? (Is it within the switching center of the wireless network or within the ISP). Hope you could help me. THANK YOU!
