March were the moth of CeBIT, and brought a lot of news. Symbian launched it operating system, with Ericsson as the first manufacturer; Symbian announced an agreement with SUN (Java); Bluetooth were demonstrated at CeBIT; several Mobile Commerce and WAP trials were announced; Palm (3Com) announced an agreement with Alcatel; Microsoft will make MSN wireless; alliances were announced between content providers and wireless vendors; and more.

Terminal news on Cebit this year has been shadowed by alliance and trial news from the wireless industry. Microsoft has seen this market develop for a long time, and launched Microsoft CE to respond to the challenge. Last year the big wireless vendors saw the threat of Microsoft grabbing the best pieces of the wireless future, and responded by forming the Symbian alliance. That decision ignited the fire, and the giants of the software and wireless industries are now fighting for this promising future.
